The most recent Annual General Meeting of the Jane Austen Society of North America has wrapped up, and Pixelia is proud to have been represented by four of the editors of The Tour of Doctor Syntax in Search of the Picturesque: Dr. Ben Wiebracht and students Aidan Bekendam, Annika Ross, and Nicolás Zepeda. Presenting during a featured slot as the conference’s “New Voices Speakers,” the team spoke on the remarkable popularity of Doctor Syntax during the Regency, and what it might show us about Austen’s own attempts to reach a wide, popular audience. The team had a chance to meet leading Austen scholars, including Juliet McMaster, whose Juvenilia Press provided part of the inspiration for Pixelia’s Forgotten Contemporaries of Jane Austen series. On the final day of the conference, the team attended the book signing for authors and editors, and can be seen here in front of the Doctor Syntax booth.
